The Pythagorean Theorem says that the square of the leg added onto the square of the other leg is equal the square of the hypotenuse (longest side). This theorem can be used to determine the distance between two objects that are not in a straight line and is the basis for the pythagorean trig identity.

All Trig Identities, Trig Equations, Half Angle Formula, Product to Sum formula stems from the basic Pythagorean theorem for a right angle triangle. Sin^2 +cos^2 =1 stems from the fact the a^2 + b^2= c^2.
so for example Cos^2 =.5 You would know that 1 -.5 = .5 and that sin^2 is .5 so Sin would be .707 |
